Southeast WI
Hinfarm is correct in his observations. It's an infiltration issue across the entire landscape. If you increase infiltration on the higher soils they hold more water preventing a few extra inches (or more) from ending up lower on the landscape in the potholes thus creating flooding/ponding there. Combine this with tile you have a winner. Tile is necessary on most of our wet soils here due to a high water table.

The challenge we have is if you haven't experienced the change and seen it across your fields you'll always resort back to tillage because that's what we've always done. Since we've gone the notill/strip till route those ponded/sealed off areas are minimal to non-existent. Tillage aeration of the soil is gone after the first heavy rain and is not an answer to "aerate the soil" . Nightcrawler channels are there forever to let big gulps of water in and also let's air in - which is why our drown-out spots now aren't what they were 10+ years ago.

If one can't get past 5th grade name calling (tillage/notillage Nazi or what have you) one will never learn or adapt. There are better ways. We've had over 14" of rain since March 1 here. On a full soil profile in Dec. I use strip till to maintain my notill structure BUT to allow me to plant as timely as possible. There are ways around full tillage in this day and age. These "new" technologies are size neutral. Don't need 1000's of acres to use them.
