Subject: Started Milo harvest today (pics)

Texas/New Mexico Stateline
Started this afternoon, and of course it came a shower after we only cut 5 rounds. Looks like we may miss most of the heavy rain. I try to never fuss about a rain, being a dryland farmer. And it is extremely dry, but in about a week we might be picking this milo up off the ground in places. This is Pioneer 85G01. Looks like it is going to be a good patch. The 5 rounds figure something over 3500lbs. acre. That is the higher end of my yield expectations. And very good considering we have had no rain all summer. I am really liking this variety except it does have some lodging issues to take into account. Planted it about the 20th of May, 30,000 pop, no-tilled all last summer then only swept once lightly before planting. Uh, it isn't normally that dusty, but this field is right next to a huge cattle feedyard. (that's granddad driving the combine)
