Subject: Harvesting sunflowers......

South Central Kansas
I planted 230 acres of double crop sunflowers after wheat this year. Looks like they will be ready to harvest in two or three weeks. I've planted flowers only twice before, first time I cut them with a wheat header, had only 20 acres or so. Last time I had a few more acres, rented a 6 row head from my neighbor and it worked great. THe reel on my wheat head was really tossing them over.

Now I'm running and 8 row planter and thinking his 6 row head might not work so well where my planter spacing isn't perfect. I hear there's a farmer near Great Bend, Kansas who is using a case corn head to harvest flowers and has been doing it for 10 years. He's using just the corn head as originally equipped, not with that knife attachment I have seen advertized. I've heard of the case corn head being used to harvest flowers in other places too.

Any one here ever used one for that or know someone who has??

Thanks, any ideas are appreciated.
