Ashburn, GA, (very close to Heaven!) | All I can say is GOOD LUCK! Between myself and thee customers, I have succeeded two times and failed two time to make these things run Site Mate. Some computers, like another poster said, will run some GPS units on some GPS software applications, some won't. They remind me of an ex-wife, hard to figure out, sometimes surprising how easy to turn on, sometimes not so surprising how turned off they remain.
Depending on the accurace level needed, there are some low cost USB GPS units that will put NMEA strings of GPS data. It works great for trip routing and navigating. I shopped and found one on eBay and have been very satisfied. It's not very accurate, and I've never made it able to run using its advertised WAAS capability, but I like it all the same. The key thing, is a "NMEA capable USB GPS". I'm the only one I know using one, but I think its success rate would be higher than the USB to serial converter. |
