NW IL | Generations mean nothing if succession wasn't done well.
Our family has been farming in this area for 150 years, and apparently no one tried to pass on land from one generation to the next until my dad bought out my grandpa. That's Gen 1-4 land that was never kept. Gen 5 wasn't allowed to buy out gen 4. Instead had to rent it (the home dairy). Gen 5 inherited 5ac and had to buy out siblings (luckily the trust made the siblings finance the sale.) Now I'm Gen 6 and my brothers and I might finally be able to inherit a farm or 2. (Hopefully not for another 20+ years though..) | |
