So you saying that we just need Iowa and Illinois to raise corn? There’s a lot of land that has corn on it yearly that doesn’t have tile. Here we had some snow and what didn’t blow in the road ditches melted slowly and did us some good for sub moisture. However I look at ponds and see how they have been recharged. Most in my area are still fairly low. So as far as I’m concerned: Until water runs out of the drain pipe of the pond dams then we are far from being recharged. And how likely is it that all the U.S. corn fields gets 3-5 inches of moisture?

You are certainly free to go with the notion that we are headed for a widespread corn belt drought this summer, ala 2012, to save the price of corn/soybeans. Go for it. My point was that in the heart of the corn belt, which yes includes Iowa and Illinois, water is rarely the limiting factor as it is typically available in sufficient supply.

If you glance back at the drought monitor for the past 3 years, slightly dry to moderately dry across a large portion of the corn belt has not led to a massive reduction in yield.
