EC SoDak | I should add, if one wants to stay on top of CRW, for more premium products you’re looking at $25-35 ac, a double rate of generic capture would probably run $5ac. I haven’t found a conventional seed around here as cheap as Coup can get his, I’d say at my seeding rates you’re looking at roughly $60 ac. Triple stack newer genetics is costing me around $105 ac this year.
$60 conv seed+$5 generic Capture=$65 ac
$60 conv seed+$30 premium insecticide=$90 ac
$105 triple stack seed= $105 ac
So, @ $4 corn, you need 10-4 more bushels from triple stack vs conventional and the insecticide options to break even. I’ll have to look at my chemical programs again, but gmo chemical programs are quite a bit cheaper than conventional as well, so it narrows it a bit some more.
Now if you can get conventional seed as cheap as $35 an acre and not use insecticide and get rather expensive triple stack corn, then you get a bit more breathing room.
