Because most of the time they are "ours" meaning the local Coop that grandpa helped form then dad used and now I no longer even recognize.
In the case of the local Coop, if you are not happy with the way they are running the business today-talk to the board members and get a clear idea of what is going on. Another option is to simply quit doing business with the local coop if you feel they are mismanaging member's equity. No reason to keep doing business with an outfit that you don't agree with.
