NW Wisconsin | What makes farmer suicide different from other suicides is besides the stress of financial difficulties, there is an emotional side of failure. Most farmers live where they work and work where they live. There is usually multi generations that have lived there and not only is there the over riding feeling of stress, but failure to their ancestors besides their immediate family. The farm crisis of the 80’s led to a lot of suicides and farmers on the whole are independent work harder and things will work out. Hey tend to keep their emotions inside and do not seek outside help.
