Why?? Why will the replacements be lower quality? I would think ranchers would get rid of the lower quality and keep back the higher quality because they will now have a chance to get rid of the lower quality at premium prices. I would look to improve the quality of my product during profitable times.

I just kept back well over $100,000 worth of my top end heifers while the steer mates and lower end heifers sold today for the highest prices of my life.

I'm really thinking about sending half of those heifers I kept back to the sale barn if prices continue to climb and if it doesn't rain.

It's nice to finally make some good money on cattle, but we need these prices with the ever rising costs. I'm just concerned who is going to be able to continue to buy beef at the grocery store?

Back to the original comment, most cattlemen will keep the best (or upper middle cut) for replacements. It's in our blood.
