Wisconsin | Could be. Seems like in much of the midwest and west, the 1920's was the population peak in most counties, and all those predators were pushed back by tens of thousands of school boys running traplines for the most part (as well as the ground being grazed bare by livestock). Around the 60's seeing a racoon was a rarity, then coyotes moved in in the 80's, now black bears and cougars every now and then, and wolves are closer and closer. I just don't think recreational hunting, even with choppers and night vision is going to do much to control the spread of hogs. Most states will never allow helicopter hunting. WI does allow wolf hunting with dogs, but not enough to limit the population or range. | |
