we always covered with a layer of plastic to stop the spoilage until we started feeding out of it . Dad had 1 with out a roof that the milking cows were feed from , still remember having to climb up and pitch the snow out , go down and pitch the snow out of the feed room , and then climb back up to pitch the silage down .
Did a stave silo roofs do anything for preserving the feed?
