How much precip have your received since Sept 15th? Do you have a good gauge as to actual subsoil moisture currently? Runoff means saturated soil which is water the plant can never use.

Would much rather have it dry in Mar than saturated. 1” below field capacity is much better than 1” above as anything above field capacity only restricts root growth. Saturation will do much more harm than lack of precip ever will prior to May 1 in the Eastern corn Belt. It’s like having every single acre tiled on 20’ centers. Quick planting and good rooting results in much more yield than a saturated subsoil.
