Subject: RE: Fixing old house, worth doing?

Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Angus8335 - 4/9/2024 10:35 Have a farm I bought that has a house that is about 100 yrs old. Has a good foundation, good roof. slate siding that looks ok. The inside has not had much maintenance done to it in the last 40 years. Local carpenter estimated about $18,000 to make it a good rental / employee housing. It sits in the middle of the farm so I will never sell it off. Also in the Scales Mound school district which is a very highly sought after school system. Doze it in or fix? ... Dennis

If you have any experience as a landlord, you can answer this question for yourself based on what you've learned. If you haven't ever done that, the answer depends on your tolerance for a lot of stress and new not-always-pleasant discoveries. There are many people who have had excellent luck with rental homes and would do it for the rest of their lives. Then there are the rest of us.
