"A panels or two" could run a low power water pump, or a ventilation fan, or some lights but only during the day. You could find a couple panels used for a few hundred bucks. Inverters get expensive, batteries even more. Good mounts, wiring, it all adds up.
As others have said, size is measured in watts, typical utilities allow you 10kw under normal rules, which would run $20-30k, grid tied with no batteries.
That's about right. Ground mount 8.3 KW system cost just over $30k here a year ago. After SREC reimbursement and 30% tax credit it'll be a net cost of right at $10k so it is roughly a 7 year payback assuming utility rates stay flat. Faster if they continue to inflate. |
