Subject: RE: Hernia repair

Central Kansas
Had bilateral inguinal hernias repaired 4 years ago (at age 76). Standard surgical procedure with double mesh installed. Took about 45-50 mins per side. Was fitted with a softball sized pump containing a lidocaine-type pain killer. A catheter thru skin to both surgical sites. Pump on timer, kept pain very manageable for the 72 hrs it functioned. When empty, I removed catheters myself. They have a colored end so you know you pulled it all out. Took none of the prescribed opioids, used pretty high dose of Advil as surgeon suggested. Not a walk in the park, but fixed the problem. Takes awhile to start lifting weight again. Without repair you risk strangulation of small bowl….damn serious deal that is.
