Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | I had heard a little before, and tonight read that about half the Buick dealerships were bought back by General Motors, primarialy because they didn't feel like investing $ 300,000 in equipment to service electric vehicles, of which Buick plans to switch to 100% by 2030 (so said the article tonight). I also read that GM bought back around 20% of the Cadillac dealerships in 2020 when they were trying to cut back, going price was $300,000 to $ 700,000 per returned dealership.
My question is: Why is GM spending so many dollars to "buy" those dealerships back? I figured that if I had owned a Caddy or Buick dealership, decided not to invest $300,000 to service EV's, Mother GM would have just said "Don't let the door hit you in your butt on the way out the door" and not given me a dime. Must be a line of business reasoning there somewhere. 'Plain it to me, Lucy. |
