Subject: RE: Getting electric

Chebanse, IL.....

Years ago we bought a farm with a electric generator in the basement of the house. Wiring went out to the milking barn. Nothing else on the farm or house had electricity...just the milking barn. There was no rural electrification at that time. That came in 1946 to our area.

I believe the generator was known as a "Prestolite plant". Brother lives in the house now (remodeled) but the cement support for the generator is still there. We milked on that farm later, but the generator was no longer needed by then. I think they were not 110 volts however....maybe less?
