You will see a disproportionate number of RVs and fancy cars with Montana plates. Motorhome plates are reasonable in MT and since we have no sales tax, many have found it cheaper to form a MT LLC that buys the vehicle and then licenses it with MT plates.
I was going to say that also Ed. I've seen that a few times over the years. State of TN (we have a decently high sales tax here) sent letters out a few years back asking owners where they physically kept the motorhome. Apparently they were going to collect TN sales taxes if you were actually keeping it here (and told them so) and not in MT. Seen it with airplane purchases also but the State could find those pretty easily and just sends a sales tax bill if you didn't pay it when you bought it.
