Western Oregon
Figure out what your "needs" are and build accordingly. We have a small 12v system. 2 250w tracking ground mount panels with a 3600w solar generator/power station in the van that powers our needs in the cabin through a 12v "extension cord". We also use a 120v extension cord to power 1 outlet for a hot pot and cooking when needed in the cabin. We also have 1 250w panel on the roof of the van that charges the solar generator that is also charged off the van alternator when traveling. 12v refrigeration, charge tool batteries, cell phone and this Chromebook. We heat and cook with wood most of the time unless bad weather and we can cook with electric. The cabin is passive solar with a heat sink so needs very little wood heat. We have gravity fed spring water and have a solar water heater (12' ABS pipe) under the clear panels of the greenhouse roof. We also use a little of that hot water to feed our black plastic cattle tanks for the yellow perch and floating foam and pot garden grow system that also helps heat the greenhouse. We have all the modern conveniences we "need"....James
