Subject: RE: Farm Auction Sales

Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa
Late 1960's, Dad had either a JD 3020 or later a 4020 as "the big tractor", (which turned out to be the start of his solid allegiance to Deere). Decided that he was at that point in his career that he should have a back-up "big tractor". Grandpa had a IH 460, Uncle Cecil had a 560, for some unknown reason Dad decided we should go to an auction 40 miles away and bid on the 560. Goes too high, don't get it. Standing around afterwards, visiting with a neighbor there also, when the JD 4010D, the seller's other main tractor, is driven out the lane by it's new owner. Really sounds good, nice looking tractor. Dad looks at me and asks "Why didn't we bid on that?".

55 years later and i still don't have the answer.
