Near-north Ontario, French River | Smaller , f2 I believe it was, hit a town near me years ago.. took out several glass greenhouse complexes. Think in the area of 10-15 acres of glass shattered and scattered. Greenhouse are different in that they ,the older ones at least, had bare soil floors. Large equipment was brought into remove what was left of the structure and then I believe they stripped and screened the top layers of soil. The one site is now being developed for housing so they must feel they cleaned it up well enough to make it usable again.. On a smaller scale, like a lawn I'd guess they would walk the area and remove the big bits, then mow several times try and break up any missed pieces,, then roll the area for the next few years to push anything thats left below the surface. I dont think I'd want to run barefoot on the lawn but the risk would probably be pretty low after a few years. |
