| Last night I was getting diesel. Pickup running. When I got back in the heat gauge was pegged out and there was a message on the screen , something like do not stop engine pickup idling to cool engine. I thought I think I’ll pass on the pegged heat gauge and it wouldn’t let me kill the engine. Pop the hood and the water pump belt idler has shredded along with the belt. I ended up pulling a battery cable to kill it. I don’t know if it would give up at some point or not. It wouldn’t let me put it in drive to cool it either.
I was an hour from the house and I guess the air moving through the fan is enough to turn the water pump. It runs fine down the road but the AC won’t blow when you’re at a light or something.
It’s pretty alarming that a computer could wreck the engine because some sort of programming tells it idling is the way to cool off. And extra frustrating that it wouldn’t let me over ride it. I assumed a durmax diesel is 20k. | |
