Apparently he is not familiar with farm rental rules and agreements and the need for timely and accurate communications. He might be a much better person than you give him credit for. In fact, you might wind up renting the land long term if you handle it properly. Take the high road and forget about lawyers, etc. Crap like that only benefits the lawyers and no one else. He might surprise you and be a really good person who meant no harm.
