Nw Iowa | We got our 2” plus rain again last night again.( Estherville got almost 4” from reports) These are not small areas. Our crop is water logged and a lot drowned out. There are still beans to be planted, don’t know how last beans planted are going to look with these huge rain events. We lost ground on crop this last two weeks with between 5 and 6 inches of rain. It is going to take a good summer to make big yields here. There is still a fair amount of rain in our forecast.
It is not a disaster by any means but every week that goes by reduces crop potential as we keep losing time up here in our shorter growing season. If we would get some sunshine and normal heat for June, crop can turn around pretty fast but we need 1/2 in predicted rains to be a 1/2in not these two and three inch events. Our whole ditch and tile system is overloaded and needs to catch a breather as even well tiled fields have to have water go someplace. Last nights rain really a bummer here. I am sitting here on Ag Talk becasue I really don’t have the gumption to get out and look at what things look like this morning.
