southern MN | Since the virus they have become extremely impersonal and cold and unfriendly here. Not really sure if they are open or not for sit down. Prices are higher than several of the mom and pop sit down places, crazy high prices for the machined bland food. But if in a hurry we do the drive through. Just has become a much less inviting option.
Unfortunately several other fast food places in town have shut down, so McDonald’s is one of a couple left.
I remember when Subway had their $5 foot long promotions. Wasn’t that long ago. Now a 6 inch sub is $7.50.
Fast food owners get to retirement, and the current business climate and the need to basically rebuild any of the facilities that are regulated so heavily when changing hands has prevented anyone from taking over the businesses.
Stopped at the McDonalds we always stop at when traveling SW this late winter. They wanted me to order from the machine, not from a person, and there was no pop machine. It was 7:00am the outside temp was minus 9 degrees, the temp in the dining area was about 48 degrees. Was a very unpleasant experience as it used to be our half way stopping point to get out stretch and warm up a bit. Have to see if any other fast food places are in that town……. Was a really miserable and cold - actually cold and just felt unfriendly cold place - to ever visit again.
I don’t know that fast food is a good investment right now. But then I’m trying to farm for a living, so probably am not the smart one in the room to get financial advice from.
