Southeast Colorado
Several years ago we were harvesting Milo with a row head. Since all of the north edges of our fields were full of tumbleweeds, we just left them until the end of harvest. Then we went around with our regular reel head which would feed the weeds through much better. When we pulled into that first pass the amount of pheasants that flew out as we made that half mile pass was simply amazing! I'm talking hundreds and hundreds. We ate a few of them with the combine..........because the ground cover was too thick for them to get out of the way. I hated doing it............but they just wouldn't move. Most of them did get away............but several did not.
