That's hard to believe. Things must different in MT.
I bought a new out of the box Honda generator from a local Runnings store at a pretty big discount several years ago because somebody tried to steal the generator during business hours. The story told to me by the clerk that helped me make the purchase was that the person trying to steal the generator never made it out of the Runnings parking lot before being arrested because employees called the police.
Runnings are only in far eastern MT. The good part of the state. West of the divide is quickly becoming California. | 
Theft - not a good sign
