Subject: RE: Dairy calves -Jersey x Charolais cross

I would think a Jersey Charolaise cross would be average size.
I had a Guernsey Charolaise cross we bred to a Herford bull. They spent a year on pasture after weaning and then finished them on ground ear corn/ oats and hay. There may have been some shelled corn in that ration towards the end. It has been 40 years.
They were generally 2 years old and weighed 1300 or 1400.
I had a Jersey Brown Swiss cross we did the same with. They were generally in that weight also.
They were sold though Star a the Sioux City stockyards and often topped the market. We were told they went to Japan but I wonder if the buyer meant the meat.
