Subject: RE: white clover eradication

SE South Dakota
I don't know what rate to use but to really nail it use Trimec in the fall. Banvel/Clarity just mixed with a bit of 2-4D will be about the same. 2-4D alone will not pack a great punch on clover. The key to making this work for clover is that you realize that clover is a perennial weed in you lawn. So this fall when you get the first little bit of frost, say mid to late Sept or so, wait until you get the next warm day then spray. The white frost is telling the perennial plant that the growing season is over and it is time to put it's root reserves down for the winter. So your application will get down in the roots and kill this hard to kill plant. The dandelions in the lawn will suffer the same result.

Again for the timing don't think it's too late, as long as the weeds are green, spray into late October. Most any perennial broadleaf weed in you lawn should be controlled with this application.

At this time of the year any flowers in the area should be gone so less worry using Banvel. But stay back from newly planted trees, they say stay back about the width of the dripline of the tree. Older trees I would not worry about.

Good luck, Jim J
