Pittsburg, Kansas | I have not ridden the Wing much since my accident. Maybe a couple thousand miles.
It seems like I have some nerve damage in my back or something. It is like my leg muscles are a tenth of a second behind my brain. Like they are a bit jerky sometimes. With a big bike you don't want to get much over center before correcting with leg muscles. I am a lot better now but still watch pretty close to what situations I get into. The year after my accident when I was still a little weak in the legs went for a ride with my wife on the back. Dumped it over at a stop sign. No harm other than embarrassment. The two of us got it back up and on our way. But she will no longer ride on the back on the Wing. She will still ride behind be on the VStar but she prefers if I drive the CanAm with her on the back. The CanAm is pretty fun but I still MUCH prefer two wheels. We have taken the CanAm on a few several thousand mile trips together.
Riding is no problem whatsoever. Balance, coordination, everything fine other than getting older every year. Riding the dirt bike was part of my recovery therapy for balance and coordination. I rode it over an hour last night in the timber after the GoldWing ride. But when I stop just don't trust my leg muscles like I used to on the big bikes. I did squats daily for a while and need to start that routine up again to give my legs a workout. |
