NW Washington | One thing that will help the plant survival rate is properly preparing potted trees for transplanting by teasing out the roots and, in some cases, pruning the roots so they will spread out and grow. If you do "pop and drop" planting, that is, pop the plant out of the pot and drop it into a hole, chances are many will not survive. They will also need to be watered well while they are establishing themselves.
