Subject: RE: Possible back surgery

Something that might help some of you with back pain is this. Nordic walking. You have to google it. Very basic, using hiking sticks or poles and will increase upper body strength. I couldn't walk very far at all without pain. Dave had read something about it and he has been dealing with lower back pain for many years, and he started using them in AZ when we walk. So I decided to try it. Since getting mine I have walked hundreds and hundreds of miles. It has helped me lose weight (80 pounds) and my back feels so much better. It is no cure, but it will make walking much easier. Besides my lower back pain, I also had hip pain. I had severe bone on bone and needed a hip replacement. Just had that done a couple weeks ago and I am ready to throw away the walker and start using my hiking sticks again. Like I said, it is not a cure, but might help you until you decide if you want to go through the surgery route. Yes, people will joke with you about where is the snow and stuff like that. But when we use them in AZ, I was getting questions every day about using them and the right way to use them. Opposite foot and hand going forward with good pressure. This is just a thought that might help you get through and make life much easier until you go the surgery route.
