If I were Bob, I would say, rent me the acres you can't manage to farm without extra help. They have too many acres and Bob needs more...problem solved. Eventually his dad's ground would go to him anyway, lots of unknowns here. Bottom line, rent to Bob or walk away. Bob will only be chasing his tail and not making very much money if he custom farms.
