I would go for it. This drone thing is just beginning. I can't answer all your questions, but here are some thoughts. Your age is not an issue. You come from a farm background and farmers will appreciate a young person with initiative and entrepreneurship.

As for licensing, I would start with the FAA Part 107 Certification (which I am currently studying for). I'm sure there are other permits required for applying chemicals, etc.

I would not rule out some form of education, and I would definitely attend key conferences to learn and meet people.

I have enclosed some photos to a cover crop seeding demo from last month near Cascade, Iowa. The drone operator has a nice setup, though you can see there is some investment (drone, truck, flatbed trailer, seed loader, generators and extra batteries). And he said he had 3 of these setups. The Dubuque County Watershed group got a grant to assist farmers with drone cover crop seeding. The demand have exceeded the available funds available for this year, showing there is interest in drone seeding. I'm sure there is great interest in drone fungicide application also.
