It was just the cop out from the manufacturers statements
Like pretty much every kind of alcohol, ethanol does two things that make it less than ideal use in boats and planes: it evaporates and it attracts water. Both of these fuel-altering characteristics are bad features for low use engines that are near water, which describes practically every recreational use boat and plane ever built.
Typical passenger vehicles will run regularly enough for evaporation and water attraction never to be a problem.
