Don't pee in the gas tank while drunk, doesn't count as fuel even if really "tanked".

I have not had any problems with the ethanol in gas, but if it gets water in it somehow that could cause trouble as it can separate.
The sludge getting cleaned out of fuel tanks was a bigger problem when the biodiesel hit the system years back, don't recall the same issues with ethanol, and that has been around for quite some time so should be a non-issue now.

Bigger problem may be the tanks at the gas station you filled up at before the trouble, some have been known to collect a lot of water and it didn't arrive with the fuel truck.
