Western Nebraska | Ardent hard white wheat program here has turned into a money maker for local coop and Ardent. You have to sign contract in the fall and choose your delivery point at that time for July delivery.
Wonder why our basis has went off the rails last few years?
Local used to be leader in wheat basis now that are tremendously worse . Only two delivery destinations within 100 miles to choose from. Yes they pay a .30/bushel more but when the cost is so much more for seed ( only few suppliers) and when they stick it to you and basis now it feels like rigged game .
I get it . Why raise wheat ? Well it helps with my following years corn crop in stripper stubble and pheasants thrive and survive better. They already know who HAS to deliver to them .
Point is ardent which was a great white program when first introduced here has now hurt farmers because of expected bushels they know HAVE TO BE DELIVERED TO THEM which in turn has turned basis upside/down. | |
