Subject: RE: Does anyone Freeze Dry food?

West Central Wisconsin
My wife would like to get one but hard for me to justify the price. Harvest Right is the name she's looking at. Our neighbor has had one for several years and has shared some of the products that he has dried. Ice cream sandwiches are awesome! We let him pick all the apples he wants and he will bring us some some back dried. This year he quartered some apples and drizzled caramel on them before freeze drying, wow! I think freeze drying tomatoes would be great for making a shelf stable powder to be used for sauce or paste, etc. Powdered, scrambled eggs would be a great way to stay ahead of egg shortages or especially if you had raised chickens. I think freeze drying meals would be handy, especially spaghetti and chili, something you can quickly make without doing a whole pot full. I'm not sure how meat would be. My wife sees a lot of freze dried "novelty" snacks at craft type venues, such as marshmallows and chocolate candies like milk duds. Another friend has expressed interest in buying one and has hinted going in half with them but I'm not real keen on that idea.
