Subject: RE: Interesting Read on EV Battery Replacement by Goldman Sachs

If I have the option to wait for warmer weather to haul I definitely will wait. I do not wait to travel anywhere in -30 weather though in a passenger vehicle. Most people can’t use the excuse of it being too cold to take the day off work either. Driving in cold weather is just a fact of life in cold climates.

We used to get by pulling with 150 hp 1/2 tons but these days not many would consider that even close to adequate to pull anything. We all want to go forward in performance, not backwards.

The reason people want long ranges and fast refuelling is because it’s already available with ICE vehicles. If the range and charging times of EV’s would be better than comparable ICE vehicles those driving EV’s would be raving about it. People still rave about it but it’s in the opposite direction. If the acceleration of ICE vehicles was better than EV’s those driving ICE vehicles would be raving about it. People still rave about it but it’s in the opposite direction.

In many cases people can get by with the poorer performance aspect of the alternative. In the end though enthusiasts from both sides chose what they have because it performs the way they want it to. There is no clear winner at this point in time. Maybe someday we will have the acceleration of an EV, range of an ICE vehicle, and the refuelling time of an ICE vehicle all in the same vehicle. Until then we still have to pick what suits us best.
