Subject: RE: Does anyone Freeze Dry food?

Wife bought a Harvest Right about 16 months ago.   I don't see the fascination with it,  but she uses it all the time.  The thing throws heat like a flame thrower, it's in a basement bedroom and had to put in a window air conditioner for that room to keep the heat down.   I think it was the medium sized one.

About the only time I see it when I have to help change or filter the oil on the vacuum pump.   And one heads up if you get one.   When ours was delivered the truck driver smartly says don't lift the thing by the front lid.  He said he's seen lots of them ruined because someone moved it by lifting on the door when it was closed and broke door off.   The thing is very heavy so I can see how it can happen.

Another thing is you need extra trays and it's best to freeze the trays with food on in a regular freezer before going into the freeze drier, it goes much faster according to my wife.   Happy Wife Happy Life.    Good luck.

Edit to add you filter the oil and only use new oil about every fourth or fifth time.   And there is cheaper oil out there then what HR recommends, but it still has be a certain type, can't use what we use in a Surge milker vacuum pump.
