NW Missouri | Don't get me wrong - I agree with you completely. I have FSA loans and have never missed a payment. It pisses me off that they make people current that are behind, even more so when I know some of them probably aren't really in that bad of shape.
But with that being said, they did the same thing in the 80s. If you owed money on a farm to FMHA and it was worth less than you owed, you could let them have it back and they'd finance you to rebuy it at the newly appraised price. I was in diapers at the time, but Dad had the chance to do it. They actually encouraged him to. He refused. He told them he'd agreed to make his payments when he bought the farm, and that's what he was going to do - and he did. But other guys he knew took the deal, and it definitely gave them a leg up.
The world has never been fair, and sometimes having a sense of pride has consequences. | |
