Pittsburg, Kansas | I used to take blood pressure medication (amlodapine). No longer need it since changing diet so now I don't take blood pressure medicine for around 5 years now.
Dr Ben Bikman in his metabolic classroom gives a lecture on three different classes of blood pressure medication and how each medication class affects the metabolism. Some affect insulin resistance.
I do take a beta blocker as eye drops for glaucoma. But I have never been able to acess how much gets into general circulation (through drainage back into the tear duct) nor how one drop in each eye could ultimately affect blood and general circulation. I have learned if I squeeze my tear duct area after treatment it is less likely the drug gets drained back to a point where it can get into general circulation. My understanding is only a tiny portion of the drop is needed to do what it needs to do within the eye to reduce eye pressure.
More that I don't know about the situation than I do know. Unfortunately I think even the doctors that prescribe the medications don't even understand all the ramifications. Upon being questioned they just look at me like "you question me? the doctor? I been to school, you haven't. Do what I say and stop asking questions". Seems like to me many of them don't like questions they have no idea the answer.
So we have to learn best we can.
