Pittsburg, Kansas | Rabbit starvation is a real thing. It is having only lean protein to eat without enough fat. Rabbits are known for lean meat. Eating only lean rabbits with no fatty meat can lead to big health problems. I think it was the Lewis and Clark expidition that got into trouble because of it in the winter when the only game they could shoot was rabbits, but I may be remembering the incorrect expedition. (do a google search and figure out where I am wrong).
As long as you eat some fat with the meat protein it will never be a problem. The fat contains a lot of the essential amino acids we need.
Protein is mostly a body building block. Fat produces energy. When eating a ketogenic diet fat is relied on for the energy in lieu of most glucose. Protein can be broken down into glucose but it is a very inefficient process that the body avoids when it can.
If a person is relying mostly on meat for sustenance they should be eating fatty meat. Not lean chicken breasts without the skin. If you gotta eat chicken, eat the skin and dark meat if you are depending on meat only for your diet. If the meat is too lean, add some fat. A pat of butter or cheese if dairy is not a problem. Use bacon grease, lard or tallow to fry in to increase the fat content.
Rib eye steaks are great. Adequate fat.
