SC Kansas
Covers simply take more management, sometimes you guess wrong. My experience is irrigated and dryland in SC Kansas. Had dryland bean make 2 bushels in dead covers, no cover were 17 bushels. Have neighbors that had lots of beans that weren’t worth cutting in 2024.
Irrigated is much more forgiving, cover’s definitely are a win every time. Beans I save at least one pass of herbicide, less pressure later in the year. We have taken bean to the next level with covers. We also graze cattle on stalks and rye throughout the winter ahead of beans.
I have little experience in corn , just haven’t done enough to comment.
