South Central MN | The bit I've dabbled with covers the beans didn't seem to mind whatever was in front of them. Corn have had a few times the cover (rye, or leftovers from a terminated hay field) didn't get cleaned out on time, only once so far been a problem but we usually run wet here with soils that have a lot of water holding capacity.
Have a lower rate of rye in some fields going to corn this spring, figure they will be planted green but usually here the day you can get through with the sprayer is the same day the field is fit to plant. And I don't expect the rye to get a lot of top growth either since it will be as early as possible on planting.
Still not sure why one year the best corn field was spring applied hog manure and a solid stand of lambsquarters when it got sprayed out after the corn was up, must have been something going on that we didn't understand at the time. Not an experiment I'd care to repeat however. | |
