From my experience if there is adequate moisture in the soil profile, covers work great. To dry and no rain and corn had a 40 bu. difference compared to the field without. I had better luck with beans and covers. Not near as much of a yield loss. I have quit planting covers since we are in a drought. In all of my years of doing covers, I really didn't see enough of a yield bump or change in soils to continue. I did appreciate the erosion control they offered.
