| Texas has a guardian program. Admins hand select staff to be in the program.
No one is supposed to know who they are, but it can be obvious in many cases where there’s retired military staff who are naturally the best selections. They go through a training program and a psyche evaluation. They carry deep concealed and the school is posted to warn a shooter that the kids aren’t sitting ducks.
The state has mandated things like locked doors and communication systems to slow down and minimize damage. They have really done about all they can without making them a prison. I hear chatter about a resource officer becoming a requirement, I think it’s a good idea if the state pays for it. Most schools are running deficit budgets today due to inflation and don’t have the money for a real deal resource officer that’s not a mall cop. I personally would be opposed to hiring anyone without combat experience. We can’t take a chance on them not being able to pull the trigger or being afraid to go into a fight. Especially when these guys who have served are not in short supply and already have the hard training and experience. I figure it will take 100k to get them hired though. | |
