911 and emergency personnel should have direct contact with train engineers. Instead of calling the number that's posted at the crossing and getting put on hold for 10 minutes. More if it's during coffee or lunch time in the dispatch office
How would you accomplish that? No electronic devices allowed in the cab off locomotive, Federal law.
Radio via encrypted RR communication is all you got. Police, fire, ems work in 900hz narrow band, RR is 160-162 wide band, they can't talk directly to each other. You can thank 9-11 and big government for the huge change in radio communications post 9-11 |
