And i think it is concerning that so many post and encourage killing others whether they think they are bad or not.

Seems to me the only protection from guns in a society that worships them is to change the attitude and reduce the number that are available 

Only purpose a gun has is to kill or maim and more guns only mean more deaths and injuries.

As for protection of a new school there is no end.
Could put a machine gun monitored gate out from with a couple guards that strip searched everyone entering and then some one would bring an armoured vehicle 

It is the attitude about guns themselves that needs to change.
Note the recent shooting at a religious school was by a girl who had gun training
